We had a lovely day at the farm today with children from Arbourthorne. This was their third and final visit to the farm to complete the farming year and see the changes from spring to summer. No rain, just lots of sunshine this time!
We went round the farm looking at the haymaking, the lambs out in the field and the calves grazing.
All the sunshine made sure that the raspberries had ripened and we set to work as raspberry detectives searching for the juicest berries. The children then went into our polytunnel and picked a few of our new hydroponically grown starwberries. We weighed and washed our produce, then went back to the classroom to make the smoothies.
Having made and tasted the smoothies everyone was full of fruit and ready to get back to school for lunch.
We hope you had a great day Arbouthorne and thanks for all your help picking the raspberries!

Outreach visit to Arbourthorne Community Primary School
We were so excited about our first ever outreach visit which took us to Arbourthorne Community Primary School. During my session we learnt about foods the Romans brought to England and then everyone got involved in the messy task of making burgers the Roman way, smelling and selecting different herbs and adding them to fresh Whirlow Hall Farm beef, before eating our creations for lunch.
Thanks to everyone at Arbourthorne for making us so welcome - we hope to see you next year.
